A Happy New Year to my dear readers!
Ever since Kleidungum1800 appeared in the width of the blogsphere in 2010, it became a tradition to me to leave the timeframe of 1795 - 1820 to venture into following eras according to the motto "Back to the future".
After taking excursions into the years 1820 and 1826, I'll leap another six years ahead into the time around 1832.
For quite some time a certain dress was on my mind, but I failed to find a matching fabric, until...
Yes, until a few days before Christmas when I finally stumbled upon the perfect cotton print (which I ordered without hesitation!)
Well guess it's time to reveal the secret project:

The dress won my heart for many reasons. First, I love to work with cotton and cotton print fabric. Secondly I love the front of the bodice...and then certainly this beautiful fabric pattern and colour! This dress is all about the fabric.
And I'm truly happy to having been able to purchase one so close to the original.

But before I'll cut into the fabric, I'll have to make a set of undergarments. I've already a proper corset, which means I'll start with a corded petticoat and puff pads for the sleeves.
I try to work according to the pieces from the Kyoto Costume Inst. collection. But I'm not sure wether I'll manage to sew so many channels. Let's see how evening's on the couch and sewing cording channels will go together.

In the past year I unfortunately neglected any progress on shoe making, thus one of my resolutions for this year is to build a pair of plain black leather slippers with square toes for this ensemble.

But before leaping into the 1832s, I'm going to finish the yellow silk dress and a bonnet...hopefully more about it soon!

  5. Oh, fun project! Please document how you go about making the slippers, I'm thinking of makins a pair for myself. I've made a corded petticoat (all by hand), but I have yet to take pictures of it. It was a long running project, but very pleasant.

    1. I'm pretty nervous about the shoe making and hope the slippers will turn out as intended, I'll document the steps (I work according to the little book "Every Lady her own shoemaker"). I would love to learn more about your corded petticoat, looking forward to see it on your blog :)

    2. Now that would be an interesting book to read, but it seems to be unavailable :/ I will blog about the corded petti when I have stays to wear it over (will probably cheat and use my regency stays for the pictures).

  11. Dear Sabine,
Good evening! When you mentioned the year, I wondered it if it was this dress that took your fancy. What a peach; I bet it makes up well.

The corded petticoat has so many cords, gracious mercy, that will be a *treat* to sew. Although, it might actually be peaceful.

    Hugs,

    Natalie

  13. Liebe Sabine,
