With the month of spring I usually not only connect the green of the blossoming lush nature, but the bright blue of the skies.
Evidently I started early in March to re-create
at my sewing table...and I was rewarded with the utmost beautiful spring weather upon finishing the dress a few days ago.

The back view, constructed  according to the description of the museum's website.

I tried to be true to the original dress as much as possible, but had to calculate the different measurement of the checked pattern.

The bodice - still without the highly embellished cuffs and the collar decoration.

The cuffs. I decided to do more pleats than in the original, which results in hidden vertical blue stripes.

The wide cord is added with stitches.

For the ruffle in the upper sleeve a tunnel was sewn and a cord inserted.

Die Innenseite des Puffärmels.
The inside of the puffed sleeve.

The smaller scaled checks tend to appear a bit 'loud' compared to the checks on the original dress, hence I decided on more pleats on the decoration of the bodice as well.

The stripes are approx. one inch wide. The picture shows the stripe of fabric, which 'connetcs' the pleated rows.

Both pleated rows attached and the cord, which is also on the cuffs.

The inside with the hooks for closure (the original dress closes with two hooks only) and the ribbons.

...and in detail. There's a topstitched vertical seam.
The waistband (outside), which connects the skirt with the bodice.

There's another cord running through the waistband. It is closed in the back. The fine pleats of the skirt.

Facing the beautiful spring weather, we decided on the museum's site of the
In the early 19th century the needle industrie was established on the grounds.
Sewing needles and bobby pins were produced there and sold across the borders of the Sauerland.

Here we go to a sunny spring day in the year 1814!

A beautiful morning, adorned with sunshine.
Let's open the parasol - and off into the greens at the murmuring brook!

Hm?!
Hm?! With the spencer it could actually get too warm...

Also schnell weiter...
...my path leads past the water wheel, which powers the machines inside.
What a noise! I'll better pass by...
...hier entlang über den Marktplatz...
...this way across the market square...

...entlang der Häuser...
...along the houses...

...hinunter zum Garten...
...down to the garden...

...ein Blick zurück! Ist es nicht herrlich hier?
...oh, look back! Isn't it quaint here?

Yes, I know the brook is waiting...but haste makes waste!

There's the water already...

...und der Bach!
...and the brook!

Immer langsam, die Steine sind glatt...
Slowly, the stepping stones are slippery...

...thanks for the pleasant company on this first spring stroll!

  3. That is TRULY amazing, Sabine. Absolutely worth all the figuring out, constructing, blood, sweat and tears. This is fab! And, it is so YOU! I love it and being able to walk about in appropriate settings to show it off is great. I was still struggling with what you were doing in terms of the piping as I couldn't really visualize it. But now. OMG! Beautiful. Beautiful. Congrats on another success.

  6. Liebe Sabine,

  14. This dress could be so simple, but the plaid and stripes have been manipulated to fool the mind and make it complicated. It really is spectacular, and so is the scenery! Bravo!

    1. Thank you! And exactly my thoughts on the dress - actually it's basics (fabric and cut) are quite simply, it's all about the decoration!

  21. Dear Sabine,
This just might be my favorite of your dresses. Along with the muslin drawn bonnet you made some time ago, the dress uses simple fabric in sophisticated and original ways, and the result is, as was the bonnet, superb. The lower portion of the dress reminds me strongly of the detailed effects on dresses in portraits and fashion plates, and shows us how the introduction of cording and other stiffeners changed the silhouette from soft and drapey to more conelike and architectural.

Oh bravo, and I hope that this dress gives much happiness over the years.

    Very best,

    Natalie

  24. Leaded stained glass historically is found in churches. It was during the Victoria Era where leaded stained glass was introduced into homes and has remained a popular method of constructing stained glass ever since.
