Then a cording is put into the channel, which then is pulled to form a nice neck opening. The ruffled collar is then worn over it. It's a very simple construction.Kleidung um 1800https://www.blogger.com/profile/09187943106849398728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761447847535936705.post-78630248974084756822022-03-09T22:41:34.648+01:002022-03-09T22:41:34.648+01:00I am still not sure what shape to cut the actual c...I am still not sure what shape to cut the actual chemisette and the hole for the neck . I didn't realise there was a lining.i thought the neck opening was pulled in with a drawstring , so I don't understand about the piping. Sorry to be a bother, but I really love it. The photo of the back view in this post explains the construction quite well, the lining for the front is a small rectangle, probably half the height of the outer fabric. The outer fabric rectangle is attached to the top, then laid into pleats on the front and along the middle secured with a few stitches (those are hidden under the small band with double piping) The double piping band is secured on the lining and then runs over to the front fabric, where the end is folded under and then attached over the gathered front. Hope the explanation helps :)Kleidung um 1800https://www.blogger.com/profile/09187943106849398728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761447847535936705.post-22431405512273082852022-03-09T03:19:39.436+01:002022-03-09T03:19:39.436+01:00This post has recently come up on Facebook, and I...This post has recently come up on Facebook, and I love the whole outfit and can follow your instructions very well, but I would love some help with the shape of the bodice rectangle and the neck opening. The bodice is tied with a neckband and sits quite close (but still comfortable - no feeling of choking here) and as the ruffle is heavily starched everything stays in shape wonderfully.
Kleidung um 1800https://www.blogger.com/profile/09187943106849398728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761447847535936705.post-82500410901047171182013-07-24T07:48:15.683+02:002013-07-24T07:48:15.683+02:00Thanks a lot :)Thanks a lot :)Kleidung um 1800https://www.blogger.com/profile/09187943106849398728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761447847535936705.post-950022021612246122013-07-24T07:47:59.847+02:002013-07-24T07:47:59.847+02:00Thank you so much for the lovely comment!Thank you so much for the lovely comment!Kleidung um 1800https://www.blogger.com/profile/09187943106849398728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761447847535936705.post-9802785447501088002013-07-24T02:44:26.657+02:002013-07-24T02:44:26.657+02:00Lovely!!! Yes, it's a smokey blue and due to ...Thank you! Yes, it's a smokey blue and due to the satin weave the colour seems to change with light, which is such a treat. Also the satin weave somehow helps to stop the edge from further fraying. This may sound odd, but the threads from the warp slightly stick together after a few rows of combing out the weft. If your fabric doesn't work that way you might add gum arabicum or fray check to the edges. You can choose stay stitch for attaching or pad stitch. I actually added a row of tiny pointstitches very close to the fringe and pintuck edge and a row of pad stitch to keep the 'uncombed' edge in place.
I'm afraid the shoes are only available in Europe so far (but with a growing demand they might be sold worldwide?!). If you buy them on sale, you already get them for less than 30 Euro, which is a very reasonable price for such soft leather and straight lasted slippers. I&...@Ginger: Thank you very much for your comment.
I'm afraid no proper source here, but some hints, though. As most dresses' bodices and skirts correspond in decoration, I thought some fringe (like that seen on the waistline and sleeves of the Kiprensky dress) would look plausible on the skirt, too. There are mentions of fringe-makers in the early 19th century, but probably it was the kind of fringe with twisted cords or metalic fringe. Nevertheless there are also hints on 'weaving' fringe in a frame, which might look similar to the 'combed fabric'. Probably it was easier to purchase a matching fringe back then - when the craft/trade of fringe-making was common, than it's today...I've once tried this method on a shawl after reading a post on Sarah 'Romantic History' Blog and it worked fine.
As I don't have a proper edge like I would have when it would have been woven in a frame I decided to hide the edges behind the pintucks. I like pintucks on daydresses as the lenghts on skirts sometimes varied from year to year and opening or adding pintucks was a clever way to match the latest fashion.
I'll keep my eyes open for more reference...it would be lovely to find a museum piece with such fringe, wouldn't it?

@Natalie: Thanks a lot.
